Depends on the situation.
In a game, the clock runs out and you are ahead
In life, you choose what you measure, so you can define victory.
If you say "I win when I have my first million" you will have trouble getting there
Small victories create momentum
Small victories teach valuable lessons (as do failures, but that is a different episode)
You can stay married to stories and excuses or you can create wins and build momentum.
